Say Goodbye to Average Burgers With Three New Takes On This Classic Sandwich

French Onion Burger with Melted Gruyere on Toasted Garlic Bread (serves 4)
Equipment Used:
- BioLite FirePit
- Charcoal
- Tongs/Spatula
- Cutting board, knife
- Mixing bowl and spoon
Ingredients
- 1lb Ground Beef
- Sourdough Bread
- 1 Large White Onion
- 2 Cloves Garlic
- 1/4 Cup Mayo
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- Gruyere Cheese
At Home Prep
- Combine mayo and one clove of minced garlic and set aside as your burger spread.
- Form patties by combining ground beef and onion powder.
- Slice onions and cheese and set aside.
Off Grid Prep
- With your FirePit's fuel rack at the highest level, pour a bed of easy light charcoals into the FirePit and light.
- Once your FirePit is hot, place patties onto the grill and add salt. Flip after a couple of minutes.
- Add onions to the grill and cook until lightly caramelized.
- Add cheese onto burgers. Once melted, remove burgers from the grill.
- Cantilever the grill to the side and place buns on to lightly toast. Remove from grill and rub a clove of garlic onto the bread.
- Spread a dollop of the aioli and some dijon mustard (optional), place a burger patty on the toast and top it off with an onion.
- Cut in half and dig in.
Spiced Turkey Burger with Cucumber Raita
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 Cucumber (peeled, seeds removed and diced)
- 1/2 Lemon Juiced
- 2 Tbsp Chopped Dill
- 1 lb Ground Turkey
- 1/2 tsp Coriander
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Fresh Parsley
- Olive Oil
- Salt & Pepper
- Potato Buns
At Home Prep
- Zest a full lemon and set aside
- Combine greek yogurt, diced cucumber, dill, salt, pepper, and juice from half of the zested lemon. Set aside in a refrigerator.
- For the burgers, combine turkey, cumin, coriander, garlic powder, parsley, salt and pepper and the lemon zest.
- Form about 4-5 patties.
Off Grid Prep
- With your FirePit's fuel rack at the highest level, pour a bed of easy light charcoals into the FirePit and light.
- Once your FirePit is hot, place patties onto the grill and add salt. Flip after a couple of minutes.
- Add buns to grill to toast lightly.
- Remove from grill and place a patty on a bun. Add a dollop of the cucumber raita and top with a sprig of parsley.
Grilled Beet Burger with Goat Cheese & Walnut Topping (serves 4)
Ingredients
- 1 large beet
- 1 Packet of Goat Cheese
- 1/2 Cup of Diced Walnuts
- 1/3 Cup Balsamic Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- Potato Buns
- Arugula
At Home Prep
- Put on gloves to avoid tie-dyed hands and peel & slice the beets.
- Pierce the beet slices with a fork several times.
- In a large plastic bag, combine olive oil, balsamic vinegar and beets. Seal and shake well to combine. Set aside.
- Combine walnuts, goat cheese and pepper. Form into small patties and set aside.
Off Grid Prep
- With your FirePit's fuel rack at the highest level, pour a bed of easy light charcoals into the FirePit and light.
- Once your FirePit is hot, place beet slices onto the grill. Grill until tender about 7.5 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Remove beets from the grill and place on a bun and a bed of arugula. Place the goat cheese patty on top and serve.
