Questions? We’ve Got Answers
What exactly does an IP67 Waterproof Rating Mean?
IP67 stands for Ingress Protection against dust and water. The "6" rating indicates the highest protection against dust (such as windblown dirt and airborne particles) while the "7" indicates the unit can withstand waterhose and jet sprays as well as temporary submersion up to 1 meter depth for up to 30 minutes.
So rain and river trips = no problem.
Care Tip: if your unit gets wet, wait for it to try before charging. If you see dust in/around your USB-C port, blow on it before charging to help clear any debris.
How does the Range Headlamp do in cold weather?
In short - pretty dang good.
The operating temps for Range Headlamps are -20C to +60C and 0C to +45C for recharging. The temp range is slightly more narrow for recharging due to standard battery safety practices. If you find yourself needed to recharge in cold climates, we recommend putting your headlamp + powerbank in an internal pocket in your coat or vest as your own body heat can help charging performance.
Typically, rechargeable lithium ion batteries perform better than alkalines in cold conditions. They deliver more consistent power, last longer, and are less likely to fail in freezing temperatures because they don't rely on a water-based electrolyte.
That said, even higher performing lithium cells can experience some reduction in peak brightness and total runtime. If you anticipate being in EXTREMELY cold conditions, we would recommend checking out our HeadLamp 800 Pro: the rear power source enables pass-thru charging, where you can connect the included 3 ft charging cord to an external battery pack that you can keep close to your body, which greatly improves runtimes and performance in extreme conditions.
Does the Range Headlamp tilt?
Yes! There are four angles to choose from including the fully flat setting you see in the standard product photo, and the furthest out being a 60 degree position. Also worth noting it's incredibly easy to tilt with one hand and with gloves on.
How do I clean this?
Wipe down the inside of the band with a damp sponge or cloth using mild soap or detergent, rinse, and then allow to air-dry. While Range is waterproof and can go under a running faucet, do not put this in the washing machine or dryer as it may damage your electronics. Avoid trying to stretch or adjust your band when it is wet.
How long does it take to charge the Range 300 / 400/ 500 from empty to full?
- 70 minutes for Range 300. See full specs.
- 80 minutes for Range 400. See full specs.
- 80 minutes for Range 500. See full specs.
Will this fit over my hat or beanie? What about a helmet?
Yes, you can adjust the band easily to accommodate.
It fits helmets, too but if you are looking for a headlamp that can also help with rear-visibility, we recommend the HeadLamp 800 Pro or Dash 450 which both have rear red lights which can be seen on the back of your helmet (good for cyclists, for example).
What are the lumens on low power mode?
The 1 Hour Reserve Mode (ie when you are in Low Power) will deliver 5 lumens. To exit Reserve Mode, connect to a power source.
What are the key differences between Range and BioLite's older headlamp models?
